SFS Discussion #51
THE GOODBYE GIRL (1977)
This November, our Film Discussion Group is exploring the film adaptations of Neil Simon!
Neil Simon was an American playwright, screenwriter and author. After getting his start in the early days of television, Simon went on to write more than 30 plays and nearly the same number of movie screenplays, mostly film adaptations of his plays. His style ranged from farce to romantic comedy to more serious dramatic comedy. In 1966, he had four successful productions running on Broadway at the same time and, in 1983, he became the only living playwright to have a New York theatre, the Neil Simon Theatre, named in his honor. He won and was nominated for numerous awards including winning three Tony awards and four Academy Award nominations. His list of notable works includes Brighton Beach Memoirs, Biloxi Blues, Come Blow Your Horn, Barefoot in the Park, The Odd Couple, Lost in Yonkers, and The Goodbye Girl.

Due to the odd scheduling of this month, all discussions will take place on the Seattle Film Society Discord server. We will return to in-person discussions in January.
Where to Watch: The Odd Couple is available to stream for free on Tubi and available for rental on Amazon, Apple, and Google.
As always, we encourage all of you to come prepared with notes, questions, and thoughts about the film. If something strikes you or grabs you, jot it down and let's talk about it! We're all here to improve our understanding of film so don't be afraid to chime in.

From its peak in the golden age of Hollywood to its Modern counterparts, this series will explore the way film and theatre inform and influence each other. What are the similarities, what are the differences, and how can we continue to grow and discover the possibilities of our storytelling capabilities together?
